Three
words outline a path for my ideas about painting and its relationship
to my life. These words are: Rearrange, Redefine, and Reinterpret.
These 3R’s constitute my beliefs and form the foundation
for my philosophy of seeing, knowing and experiencing.
Rearranging what
I know and how I understand is the first step to understanding.
Rearrangement can take place through visual investigation,
media manipulation, and/or personal introspection. Approaching
painting in this way I am concerned with action, not learned
behavior. Action implies the aggressive pursuit of new and
distinct ways of translating experiences. I am interested
in beginnings, not in prescribed endings.
Redefining what
I know emerges from rearranging what I already know. I encouraged
the viewer to think of these works in different ways and move
beyond what you know. Interacting with a diverse body of work
such as this surrounds us with new ideas and emotions. I wish
to challenge the viewer to form new ideas from their experiences.
Redefining what is known allows us to look at the world, its
creations and our perceptions in new ways. Read
